Itinerary

DAY 1: ROME


  • Welcome to the Eternal City! Meet your tour leader and settle into your hotel.

  • Take some time to explore this exciting city before the evening welcome meeting and apertivo (happy hour).

  • Enjoy your aperitivo with the local favorites like Spritz or Negroni and local appetizers.

  • Follow your tour leader to a local restaurant for dinner and try one of the ancient local Roman dishes: Carbonara, Amatriciana, Saltimbocca or Straccetti with artichokes.

  • Overnight at the hotel in Rome.

DAY 2: ROME


  • Take a guided walking/food tour through the historical city center of the Eternal City. Stroll through the famous squares and past ancient landmarks such as the Pantheon, Navona Square, Campo del Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto and much more. Along the way, you will try some of the delicious local specialties.

  • Continue your walking tour in Trastevere. Lined with narrow, cobblestone streets and colorful buildings, this neighborhood is unique, charming and full of artisanal food and wine. It is the center of delectable food classics like suppli, a fried ball of rice and mozzarella cheese, and a variety of local meats, cheese and wine and pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice). Along the way, you will meet the people behind these delicious treats and discover the deep-rooted history of these culinary traditions.

  • Cap off the evening with a drink or an apertivo in one of the lovely squares or at one of the many local bars.

  • Overnight stay in Rome.

DAY 3: ROME


  • Enjoy a free day to explore this open-air museum or join one of our optional tours.

  • In the morning you can join the Colosseum & Roman Forum or the Vatican Museums & St. Peter’s tour. If you prefer, you can get away from the bustling city and enjoy the summer Papal Residence in Castel Gandolfo and the lovely Roman countryside where traditional products such as delectable wine and olive oil are produced. In the afternoon you can enjoy a cooking class with a real Roman mom in her kitchen and learn how to prepare local specialties using fresh, native ingredients or you can join the “ I Love Gelato!” experience and become perfect ice cream makers!

  • Overnight at the hotel in Rome.

DAY 4: ROME-SPERLONGA-SORRENTO


  • Check-out of your hotel in Rome and travel along the gorgeous western coastline to the beautiful coastal town of Sperlonga located half way between Rome and Naples. Sperlonga boasts pristine beaches and a spectacular view of the sea.

  • Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch in a traditional local osteria. The menus vary but be sure to try a local specialty such as Seppie con Carfiofi (fish and artichokes), Zuppa di Cozze (a soup made with local mussels), or Fritti Misti di Mare (a mix of tender, deep friend seafood). Additional regional products to indulge in include tomatoes, eggplants, lemons and black olives.

  • Visit the famous Archeological Museum and Villa of Tiberius: the second Roman emperor.

  • Continue to Sorrento and check into the hotel overlooking The Amalfi Coast, a gorgeous stretch of coastline known world-wide for homes which decorate the cliffs leading down to the sea.

DAY 5: NAPLES


  • Make your way to the birthplace of pizza: Naples!

  • Take a walking tour through the popular port city for a street food crawl. You will have a chance to try the amazing specialties of the region influenced by Greek, Spanish, French and Arab cultures. Discover street food traditions and sample local delicacies such as cuoppo (fried fish), portafoglio (fried and folded pizza), zeppole (rich donut fritter with sweet cream) and sfogliatella (shell-shaped sweet pastry).

  • Overnight stay in Sorrento area.

DAY 6: VESUVIUS & WINERY LUNCH


  • Depart for Mount Vesuvius. Visit the National Park of Vesuvius and reach the summit of this remarkable volcano that destroyed the Roman city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. The volcano is still active and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Enjoy an excellent lunch and wine tasting in one of the best local wineries located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. The menu includes appetizers with local products such as salami, provolone cheese, Casatiello (a savory bread), and bruschetta with heirloom Piennolo Tomatoes on bread baked in a wood-burning oven.  These are paired with a great variety of local wines such as Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Bianco; aged in French oak barrels for 18 - 24 months; Rosato, and Rosso. The first course may include spaghetti made with Durum Wheat Flour and tossed with a sauce made from heirloom Piennolo Tomatoes and basil. Dessert is often Pastiera Napoletana, a traditional dessert featuring sweetened ricotta, candied fruit, and boiled wheat berries, paired with Capafresca Spumante Rosato and Acquavite di Albicocche del Vesuvio, an apricot distillate.

DAY 7: POMPEII & PIZZA COOKING CLASS


  • Board your coach, travel to Pompeii and meet your local guide for a visit of the ruins. Pompeii was an ancient Roman city buried by the volcanic ash of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and perfectly preserved. The excavations are visited annually by more than three million visitors, and it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • After the visit, enjoy some free time to visit a real Cameo factory; here you will discover the local tradition, dating back to Ancient Rome, of carving engraved gems with coral extracted from the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas.

  • Now it’s time to become a true Italian! Take a pizza cooking class and have lunch with a real Italian Pizzaiolo!

  • Overnight stay in Sorrento area.

DAY 8: SORRENTO


  • After breakfast, depart for Sorrento, popular for its antique shops and its location overlooking The Bay of Naples. Arrive in the Sorrento City Center and spend the rest of the day on your own exploring the stunning city and even enjoying the lovely beach.

  • After trying some local Limoncello, sweet liquor mainly produced in the area and dating back at least 100 years, transfer to your hotel.

  • Overnight stay in Sorrento area.

DAY 9: AMALFI COAST & GRAGNANO PASTA


  • Depart for a drive along the amazing Amalfi Coast. This is a breathtaking coastline listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known for its beauty; it attracts thousands of tourists every year.

  • Stop in Positano, a beautiful village considered the pearl of the Amalfi coast and home to spectacular steep cliffs leading to the sea, and spend some time taking photos of the panorama.

  • Continue to Amalfi which is the main coastal town and has been a popular holiday destination since the 1920s; it is known for its splendid sea and coastal scenery. Make a stop for some photos and breathing in the sea air.

  • Cap off the visit in Amalfi with a private boat tour where you will admire the amazing coastline from a different perspective; you will see the villas of Sofia Loren, Bill Gates and the most famous Italian actors and politicians! Back on land you will have some free time in Amalfi to visit the city and to enjoy the local specialties.

  • Travel to Gragnano where Italian pasta was born and is still home to the best dried pasta in Italy! Enjoy a guided tour of one of the oldest artisanal pasta factories of Italy and then have lunch while tasting their exquisite recipes.

  • Overnight stay in Sorrento area.

DAY 9: CAPRI


  • Travel to the port of Sorrento where you will depart for Capri on a hydrofoil boat. Take in the sites of the beautiful Bay of Naples before reaching your destination.

  • Meet your local guide at the Port of Capri. Continue on the water with a beautiful boat excursion around the island and admire the popular Faraglioni Pinnacles of stone typical of the Mediterranean Sea. During ancient times, these were used in local legends as human and mythological petrified figures. Along the journey, enjoy the amazing Blue Grotto; this is an underwater cave where the seawater reflects a beautiful blue color and illuminates the cavern.

  • Continue on land with your guide on a tour of Capri and the amazing Anacapri which is is the highest and most panoramic side of the island.

  • Free time for lunch and shopping.

  • Transfer to your hotel for a special farewell dinner featuring local specialties before saying goodbye to this spectacular journey.

DAY 9: DEPARTURE


  • Depart from Naples International Airport or continue your journey exploring the region and enjoying the countryside’s culinary specialties.
